Five years ago the numbers would have looked a lot different but Ski-Doo, since the introduction of the REV, has been walking away with huge market share since 2003.
Right now, the word is BRP controls more than 40-percent of the snowmobile market in new sales. The other 60 or so percent is shared pretty much evenly by Yamaha, Arctic Cat and Polaris.
Those numbers are actually too close to call. One thing worth considering is the fact Yamaha has been gaining huge market share advances since it decided to become exclusively a 4-stroke snowmobile company. At the turn of the century it was languishing in 4th place with only about 10-percent of the market.
Lesson here? Big advances require gutsy moves. It’s no secret which OEMs have taken the hit with Ski-Doo and Yamaha making such big gains.
