THE MYSTIQUE OF THE SRX

We can’t come up with any good reason for it but every time we post an article – anything – about the 2019 Yamaha SRX, our views and responses on it go off the Richter scale!

Frankly, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen this kind of internet response to any new sled.

The truth is, this year, MY2019, Yamaha hasn’t exactly set the world on fire with new models. The fact is, the SRX was about the only new and exciting thing the company offered this year – but what a jackpot of interest it’s stirred up!

Is it cheap and bargain priced? Nope. This is one of the industry’s premium sleds and is priced that way.

Is it highly different than other SideWinders in the Yamaha barn? No, not a lot – it does sit lower, has a bit different calibration here and there and features an excellent rider-adjustable suspension, but other than that, its appeal seems to all be wrapped up in the nameplate and the colors Yamaha chose for it.

Its candy metallic blue looks a lot like the early ’00 SRX powered by one of the fastest 700 2-stroke triples ever built.

It seems those sleds are still very much top-of-mind with Yamaha-philes and one showroom visit to see the new one brings back fond memories of the old one.

If Yamaha could grasp how strong the admiration is for this sled, perhaps based on the past, then put it in a bag and spread it over more models, they could have a whole bunch of winners.

How about a Viper EX 1050 or a Phazer ET 800? Just sayin’.
