Laramie Wyoming makes a great kick-off point for a spectacular winter mountain run in the nearby Snowy Range.
The recently renovated and modernized Snowy Mountain Lodge located about 40 minutes up the hill on hwy 130 west out of Laramie has the right combination of rustic and comfortable amenities for any visit.
The Snowy Range pops out of eastern Wyoming’s high plains to capture lots of passing winter weather in a close-coupled and remarkably high area of the Medicine-Bow National Forest. There are 195 miles of carefully groomed trails here and another 120 miles of signed but ungroomed routes plus an untold number of big open meadows and freelance shortcuts to keep you busy for days.
On our many visits to the area, we’ve always had spectacular weather with lots of sunshine. While it can get stormy like any mountain region, the weather moves fast so you won’t get cabin fever and we recommend a day trip to Medicine Bow Lodge for lunch.
Veteran visitors know there are a long list of other options too as many of the dude ranches in the area are year-round and offer true luxury in a stunning variety. Plus, the range town of Albany has new accommodations, a new snowmobile rental & repair shop and more.
